The Sheffield Business Awards are back!
Thursday, 25th August 2011
One of the region’s most prestigious award ceremonies is celebrating its tenth anniversary – and local businesses are being invited to help mark the occasion.
The Sheffield Chamber of Commerce in association with First for Business magazine has officially launched the Sheffield Business Awards and entry is now open.
More than a 1,000 people from the city region’s business community will gather for this prestigious and ever growing event, which forms a key part in an annual celebration of business achievement in the region for individuals, SMEs and larger organisations.
Interest and attendance at the awards has grown year on year, with the Sheffield Chamber receiving hundreds of submissions from a wide variety of organisations.
This year’s event will have an ‘Olympics’ theme, kicking off the celebrations as the nation gears up to London 2012, which is set to be the biggest sporting event ever to come to the UK.
For the first time the Sheffield Business Awards will be part of the city’s five strategic events, alongside the Global Manufacturing Festival, the MADE Entrepreneurs Festival, a proposed sport and leisure convention and a cultural festival coinciding with ‘Doc-Fest’. These events are at the centre of the coordinated marketing of the city and region’s strengths, both locally and internationally, in conjunction with Creative Sheffield.
The awards, which will be held on 19 January at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, have already secured a number of high profile sponsors. Elevation Recruitment has signed up as headline sponsor for the event, with Irwin Mitchell, Wake Smith, Napoleons Casino and Owlerton Greyhound Stadium also pledging their support.
New awards have been added to list, which is made up of 13 categories, including the Next Big Thing Award, the Third Sector Award and the Excellence in Sport, Hospitality and Tourism Award.
Earlier this year, Chamber members voted for the event to take place in January 2012 following a change in date of the 2010 event due to the heavy snowfall in December that year.
Richard Wright, executive director at the Sheffield Chamber, said: “The Sheffield Business Awards is now an integral part of the city’s events calendar and forms a key part of celebrating the achievements of businesses throughout the region.
“We have seen the event get bigger and better year after year and we’re hoping that the tenth anniversary event will be the best yet.
“With some new categories added to this year’s awards, we have opened up opportunities to more businesses and individuals across the city and we are looking forward to honouring their successes from the previous 12 months.
“The new awards also add a forward looking element to the occasion, with tomorrows products and people showing that this region is part of the future of this country and does not rely on its past.”
